Ensure your cast iron rotary pump lasts for years. Follow our official guide on proper assembly, usage, troubleshooting, and storage to prevent leaks and maintain peak efficiency.

To get the most out of your industrial equipment, proper usage, maintenance, and storage are essential. The ORIENTAL Hand Rotary Oil Pump is engineered from heavy-duty cast iron for extreme durability, but following the correct operational procedures will ensure it delivers smooth, leak-free performance for years to come.

Here is your official guide to handling the RP-25 and RP-25G models.
1. How to Use Correctly
Before you begin pumping, always check the drum or tank for any dirt or debris to prevent internal clogs.
-
Assembly: Securely connect the main pipe, adapter, and output pipe (or rubber tube) to the main pump body. Ensure the shake handle is firmly attached.
-
Approved Fluids: This pump is designed for a variety of fluids, including kerosene, light oil, diesel, and natural gas with a maximum viscosity of 100 mm²/S. Note that it does not apply to natural gas at high temperatures.
-
Strict Prohibitions: Never use this pump with water or chemical solvents. Using unsupported liquids can corrode the cast iron internals and instantly ruin the mechanism.
2. Proper Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Cast iron rotary pumps are generally low-maintenance, but occasional troubleshooting may be required if the pump loses its suction.
-
Fixing a Pump Failure: If the pump fails to suck up oil, turn the pump tube upside down for a minute on the upside. Next, manually prime the pump by pouring 50 cc of oil directly into it, then rotate the handle 2-3 rounds. This will relubricate the internal impeller and restore suction.
-
Do Not Dismantle: If you encounter mechanical issues, do not dismantle or attempt to repair the pump body yourself. Disassembling or modifying the product will void the manufacturer's warranty.
3. Safe Storage Practices
Improper storage is the leading cause of pump leakage. Whenever you finish a pumping session, follow these steps:
-
Drain the Oil: Rotate the handle several times to completely drain the remaining oil from the system. For models with a glass tube (RP-25G), turn the remaining oil back to the oil return.
-
Special Care for Harsh Fluids: If you are using the pump with gasoline or paint thinner, you must take extra precautions. When not in use, turn the handle backward to vent or push the thinner residue inside out. Leaving volatile solvents inside the chamber will cause leakage and prevent the pump from sucking up oil in the future.
-
Safety First: Store the pump in a safe area and ensure it is not touched or handled by unauthorized personnel or children.
By following these simple steps, your ORIENTAL Hand Rotary Oil Pump will remain a reliable tool in your facility for decades.
